DIY project #1 -- Vintage Barbie

Midnight Mischief Barbie by Robert Best

Like any girlie girl, growing up, I absolutely loved Barbie.
I can not tell you how many I owned, and I still have them stored away in the closet, and when my niece visits, she enjoys playing with them.

Barbie is just timeless and every girl is enchanted with her.

Now that I am older, I still love Barbie, but in a more sophisticated form, -- a.k.a. art pieces.

I own few of Robert Best's vintage Barbie prints in frames, and also bought a calendar last fall featuring his work.

I adore the style from decades ago -- those classic coats and dresses are so simple yet gorgeous. Unlike the blond bombshell modern day Barbie that I had, the vintage ones look so much more sophisticated.

I was trying to figure out a way to recycle the marvelous pictures from the calendar, and figured why not just cut them out, paste onto some interesting/coordinating paper and frame them?

And that's exactly what I did.

I took the calender apart...

Colorful papers for the background...
Some may be just solid colors, but they are textured

Measuring and marking and cutting....

Waiting for the glue to dry...

  6. Thanks gals!! I am really enjoying coordinating the frame color/thickness to each pictures, and cutting the pictures in different way to accentuate the different outfits :) I will do an update post with all of them once I'm done!
